My secret

Posted by socalrunnergirl on July 31, 2006

Shhh.  Don’t tell anyone!  But I’m thinking of picking up a pair of Montrails to try out.  When I start running again my mileage won’t be super high right away, so a good time to try a new pair of shoes.  Anyone have any recommendations?  I have pretty normal pronation but high arches so I need arch support.  I was thinking Hardrock but is there something like them for my arches but not quite as tank-like?

Speaking of shoes… I got some cute and cheap ones (for work) at Target over the weekend.  Only problem is I can’t wear them yet because the heel is not real conducive to the healing of my foot :)

Other than that I’m still bored.  My foot feels better today and yesterday from how it felt Saturday.  I ordered a pro-tec ankle wrap to use for support when I start walking and running again.  Days like Saturday I get a little down that recovery is taking forever.  days like today I feel confident I’m on the right path to recovery.  Lots of ups and downs!

I added a "bloggers I’ve met" list on my blog.  I stole the idea from Rob.  Hopefully in the next couple months I’ll have a a few more (Nattie & Olga) to aded to that list and if some of you all come out to my trail marathon in February I can grow that list even more.  I love meeting fellow bloggers!

Happy Running  my blogging friends,
Jessica

I can definitely attest that the Hardrock’s are not the way to go if you are looking for something light and nimble. I bought a pair since they had wide sizing and the fit was great. However, anything longer than 3hrs and I feel like I’m running in hiking boots. I’ve now relegated them to light hikers and am going to be trying the North Face Radials since my Vapor Light’s need retiring.
As for Montrail, my wife used to use the Hurricane Ridge. They aren’t super light, but have good arch support and look to be more nimble than the Hardrocks.

Now I have to visit the Nike store at Fashion Island! They opened that new Barnes and Noble store and I can spend hours there. I’m sure I’ll enjoy Nike just as much. Are there any exercises you can do to strengthen the injured area? If it’s the ankle part, I’ve heard about doing the “alphabet” with your foot… carefully “draw” each letter keeping your ankle straight and moving the foot… thankfully I’ve never had an ankle injury, but some people attest that it works.

Trail marathon in February. Just keep reminding us and post the details when you have them. If you get a website let me know and I can add it to the Marathon Maniacs website. If I can get people to road trip there I will come. There are plenty of maniacs around here that are willing to drive 15-20 hours for a marathon.

I love my hardrocks, but they are heavy. I’ll take the heaviness in order to have incredible support for my feet, though. Helps my ITB too.
I’m still hoping to come out for the marathon!!!

Steve – The Hurricane Ridge sounds like it might be an option. Thanks for the tip.
Nattie – yes stop by the store some time! You live in Newport right? I’m sure it’s not that far away… That B&N there is awesome! And they have Starbucks which is a plus :) I have heard about the alphabet thing for my foot. Also Tavi is coming home tomorrow. She is going to help with some exercises she got from her PT, and with massaging my foot (circulation helps healing). Ahh.. A true friend is one who will massage your feet when needed! :)
Angie – well maybe I’ll try those still. I need to see if the REI here has a good selection of Montrails. And I hope you can come out for the trail marathon! Might still be able to help you with lodging if that is a make or break issue.
Rob – a Very nice looking website will be coming VERY soon at http://www.twinpeakstrailmarathon.com. I’ll post on my blog once it’s up and running!

I’m interested in what you end up getting. I’m currently wearing Leona Divide’s (discontinued) so will have to find something else when they’re worn out. I think the Hardrocks may be too much shoe for me right now.
    Best wishes for continued healing!

Odyssey is light and wide in toebox, made for neutral feet. Highlander is light and narrow in toebox, but has no support. Continenatl Divide has support and is lighter than Hardrock. There are two more new shoes coming in october, and I am interested in one of them for sure – I’ll let you know as soon as I get it. BTW, hardrock is for overpronators.
