My New Year’s Weekend

I had a very eventful New Year’s weekend spent with Nickie.   I’ll skip a lot of the details and sadly there was not enough running.  However, I did get to experience wine tasting for the first time.  Nickie and I, along with two of her friends spent some time trotting around the Santa Ynez Valley and tasting some yummy wine.  Definitely a trip I’d like to take again.

Monday morning I went on a run through the SB9T course.  I started at the "starting line" of the race on the Jesusita trail and run for about 4 miles before turning around.  The first mile or two was rough as I guess I was getting warmed up.  I also hadn’t been feeling 100% healthy the past few days.  About 1.5 miles in the climb started and continued for the next 2.5 miles.  I actually did pretty well on the climb and ran some sections of it.  The weather was perfect and the views on this clear day were amazing.  I enjoyed a fun non-stop "ride" back to the start with a brief intermission with about .75 mile go.  I was dodging myself around some hikers and a runner not really paying attention to who they were when I heard "Hey Jessica".  I stopped to see Rocky Allen who was also in SB for the weekend.  We talked briefly and were both off back to our runs.  He was even wearing his Twin Peak shirts so he gets major kudos for that!

New Year’s Eve was low key.  Nickie and I did some cooking (well it was mostly her).  I made some enchiladas and she made a spectacular Albondigas soup.  Anne & Alex stopped by for a bit – long enough to eat some enchiladas and drink a champagne toast with us then had to go to their dinner party.  Nickie and I spent the rest of the night having a low key and fun evening doing shots and breaking her bad New Year’s curse (she has a long history of crappy New Years Celebrations so we were proud to change that!).

New Year’s Day I didn’t wake up hung over – but sick. Yuck.  I knew something was coming on and it hit me.  I made a poor attempt to work today but only made it half way through the day.  Hopefully I’ll kick this thing soon.

Happy 2008 Everyone!
Jessica

Happy New Year. I LOVE that area of Cali. My grandparents live in Los Olivos. So fun.
