California Fire Season

Posted by socalrunnergirl on October 14, 2008

Fires in California can happen any time (as I know from living there), but there always seems to be a time in the fall where things get messy.  Hopefully the fire season won’t be too bad, a fear considering it is dryer there than it has been in a long time.  Already there was a 50 acre fire (since under control) burning very near homes in Newport Beach.  There is the Camp Pendleton fire and a related fire that sprung up, closing the 5 Freeway for a while and backing up traffic for 20 miles!  Two fires rage in the San Fernando Valley, the Marek fire which is 70% contained, and the Sesnon fire which doubled in size overnight from 5,000 to 10,000 acres.  Let’s hope theres no (more) loss of life and a milder fire season that expected!  I think the whole country remebers how horrible the fire season was last year in Southern California.

While I’ve largely left the fire scare behind me, wildfires CAN happen in Oregon – most recently the Gnarl fire on the sparsely populated Eastern side of Mt Hood (60 miles away from me).

Stay Safe,
Jessica
