As firefighters gain ground and losses mount, word of another near disaster comes from near the famous "Candy Store" on the Ortega Highway.
Apparently, that 7 acre fire could have been the work of arson.
The "Freeway Complex" fire near the border of Orange & Riverside Counties burned at least 90% of Chino Hills State Park and recently surpassed last year’s Santiago fire in total size. For a comparison to my NW readers, Chino Hills State Park is 14,000 acres and Forest Park is 5,000. Imagine 3 Forest Parks burning just to cover the burn area of Chino Hills State park, and nearly 3 more to cover the rest of the burn area from this fire.
The 7 acre fire could have caused a repeat of what happened to the Twin Peaks course last year, and while I heard about the fire after it was put out – it did cause me a brief moment of concern with Twin Peaks being less than 4 weeks away!
