PT Pt. 2

Posted by socalrunnergirl on June 11, 2010

With a likely surgery on the horizon (penciled in for July 15th), I have some new goals in PT.  Well, they aren't really that new per se.  The focus is to get flexibility back in my knee and get strength back.  I lost a lot of movement and strength from being locked at 30 degrees in my brace for two weeks and being in this brace in general.

Yesterday's PT involved ultrasound, leg raises, calf raises, stretching, leg press and I think that was about it.  I was tested at 77 degrees in my knee which is 20 degrees more than last week.  To get to 57 last week was also pretty painful and 77 degrees was not too bad.  My PT thinks I can start riding a bike soon and could probably ride a recumbent bike now since they require less knee flexing.  I'll give that a shot at the gym tomorrow.

Riding a bike is an exciting possibility for me (much better than just the arm bike).  I'm also happy that I can start doing leg presses and calf work.  I want to get nice and strong for surgery and strong is good anyway.  Despite a looming surgery I plan to be in the best shape of my life by my next birthday in April.  All things are possible…
