Running but Not Running

Posted by socalrunnergirl on May 23, 2011

The show must go on! While my foot is still bothering me enough to not go “running”, I have continued to play ball without too much trouble and this past weekend I spent a lot of time running in my baseball game and softball double header. Those baseball paths are long! (90′ compared to 60′ in softball). I took at least 2 full trips around the bases in baseball and had at least one stolen base when I stole home on a wild pitch – awesome! It was the first time I played baseball in a loooong time and it was a great group of women to play ball with. I had been worried about the pitching but it wasn’t too horribly fast and I was able to hit well with a double, single and no strikeouts. I did get a walk and was hit by a pitch that only hurt a little bit for a little bit :) About 12 hours later I hit a grand slam in the first inning our softball double header. My first softball grand slam! I got it over the fielder’s head in center field and figured I’d at least have a double or triple. When I came to third my coach said “you said you didn’t need a runner so I’m not stopping you” – or something like that :) So needless to say, I took several more trips around the bases on Sunday and my foot never really bothered me all that much. Is it getting better?

My doctor left me a message this morning that went something like “the bone scan was fine but… call me for more details”. I called him and am still waiting for a call back (somewhat impatiently). I’m hoping I can start some short runs up again soon but not until I hear what my doc has to say and not until I play in the softball tournament Saturday. I figure if I can play in an all day tournament and still have no pain then things are definitely getting better – so we’ll find out soon!

Happy Running & Dirty Feet,
Jessica
