Softball, Running, Friends

Posted by socalrunnergirl on September 16, 2010

It’s been a while since I posted so I guess I have some catching up to do.

Knee
Going well!  My biggest problem seems to be whatever I did to the back of my knee just below the kneecap – about the point where the calf muscle inserts.  It’s pretty bothersome at times and still not sure what caused it or when it will go away – but it is NOT part of my original injury.  All the original injury stuff is going well.  I have occasional pain along my MCL but her I tore that sucker good!  Level 1 to 2 ankle sprains can plague a person periodically for years so it’s no surprise I’ll have  intermittent knee pain on the side where I had a level 3 tear.  Running is going well – yesterday I ran 3.3 miles with 2 walk breaks of 1.5 minutes each.  My run intervals are up to 12 minutes.  Slow, steady progress!  It’s tough though.  I lost a lot of cardio fitness which was sorta of lacking to begin with thanks to almost no running through the winter.  It’s been a long time since I logged over 15 miles in one run.

Softball
Our first (and surely not our last) rain out happened to what was supposed to be our first game last week.  Fortunately the weather smiled on use this week with a beautiful near 80 degree day on Tuesday!  We clobbered the other team 17-8.  We definitely have some good hitters on the team.   Only a few errors but they did cost us 3-4 runs.  No matter – it helps with you have strong bats.  We had two innings where we maxed out our runs (6 max per inning).  I think one of those innings we even did it with no outs.  I’m pretty happy with our team.  Good players and good people!  We definitely have a lot of fun on and off the field.

Friends/Location
As I continue to look for jobs in SoCal and plan a relo, I find myself meeting more and more cool peeps here.  I’ve met some pretty awesome people over the past year alone in Portland.  Some day when I DO get a job back in OC, the hardest part about moving will be leaving people behind.  I feel like I made more good friends here than I did while in SoCal, but then again, the people here aren’t as fake and flaky.  And as much as I knock on Portland, I’ll miss certain things about it.  The city is very pretty (when it’s not rainy) and there are some cool little uncrowded hangouts.  I would probably come back and visit often – just not September – June :)

Happy Running & Dirty Feet,
Jessica

‘Fake and flakey’? Doh :( Not everyone in SoCal. Hoping that you find a comfy spot to land and that your move here is a good one…
