Western States Should be Interesting This Year

Posted by socalrunnergirl on March 1, 2006

Well well well.  Is Mr. Jurek’s winning streak at the Western States 100 Endurance Run in jeopardy?  One thing for sure, is it always is an interesting race and this year should be no exception.  Scott Dunlap interviewed Chikara Omine and has the interview over at his blog.  This new ultra running phenom is breaking records and setting his sites on races like the Western States 100 and Way Too Cool 50K.  He has already won the Angel Island 50K and Jed Smith 50K this season.  Chikara ran for SF State and is only 23 years old.

Make sure you stop by Scott’s Trail Running Blog to read the great interview!

Thanks for the link! Chikara is pretty amazing. Andy Jones-Wilkins also won the 100 Mile US Championships in a PR time, so he’s in the running. Jeff Riley is on fire too. Kami Semick is stepping up after cleaning house in the 100k’s last year. I think you’re right that this is going to be a great year at States!
